"Lead 'turning children to crime'"?

although it sounds weird, lead has been shown to change the personality in adolescents significantly. It makes them manic and angry sometimes, which might lead to disintigration of family and school and social circle... and thus lead to the lifestyle that leads to crime.

I've seen kids misdiagnosed as ADHD but who really have lead poisoning and end up with brain damage and on drugs that don't help... or it just goes untreated entirely and they end up with ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) which has a tendancy to lead to crimes of passion and violence and such.

It can be a bigger problem than people realize because we're all worried about our kids going deaf and such from lead but low levels tend to lead towards personality changes instead.

Glad to see some literature is reaching the masses!

I thought I remembered reading about lead poisoning and its effect, or it being partially responsible for the fall of Rome. I could, in fact, be making it all up, though.
