Geek Off 2007?
At the prompting of satiricpacifistA.J. and the post here, I suppose I'll make a list. My reluctance to do so stems from the fact that I probably do not have the Geek qualifications that others elsewhere may have. The other thing is that some of this seems more a reflection of my neuroses than anything.

But here's a list nonetheless.

  1. As a yoot, I had a mullet. By choice--I REALLY wanted to have it. It, thankfully or sadly depending on one's point of view, did not make it to my senior picture.

  2. One of my first thoughts before doing this was, "MUST use ordered list tag!" Part of that has to do with my laziness, I'm sure.

  3. I have given very serious thought to dressing my family up as a Star Trek away team. Rachel begs to differ, though.

  4. I've said it before and will say it again, my cash (the rare times I actually DO carry some) has to be in order by denomination and serial number. It just does NOT feel right otherwise. Spends the same, but feels all wrong.

  5. For almost my whole middle school and some of my high school years, I watched my taped from TV copy of Back to the Future...when I finally watched it unedited, I was surprised that Marty McFly .: gasp! :. cursed.

  6. I am anxiously awaiting port options for the human body a la Johnny Mnemonic, Ghost in the Shell, and eXistenZ. The ones in eXistenZ are a bit disturbing, though.

  7. I have owned a Timex Sinclair 1000, TRS-80 and a Tandy. I have made some poor choices in technology in the past.

  8. TurboPascal and I used to be REALLY good friends.

  9. In my youth, I wrote embarrassing episodes for Star Trek: TOS. Needless to say, I was a bit upset when ST:TNG came out.

  10. Both my children have names that reference the X-Men universe. Logan for Abby and Jonothan (which was supposed to be Jonothon, Chamber from Generation X) for my son. I lobbied for Jubilation for Abby's middle name, but it was a no-go.

  11. Additionally, my son Jon's name (Jonothan Michael) is a tiny bit of an homage to Michael Stipe, as his name his John Michael Stipe.

  12. I once gave serious thought to changing my name to Michael Edward Mills.

  13. I am just a little bit into R.E.M.--despite missing out on my chance to buy a four record bootleg collection of theirs many years ago.

  14. I have seen Iron Maiden, Metallica, Dokken, Van Halen, Scorpions, and Kingdom Come live. I WAS a teenage dirtbag. The last five bands I saw all in one day, even.

  15. The departure of Lexx from the SciFi lineup still saddens me.

  16. The majority of my closet space is taken up by boxed comics, Magic the Gathering cards, and odd little games.

  17. The first movie I used my own money to pay for was The Dark Crystal.

  18. I was an extra for the film Band of the Hand, which starred Lauren Holly and was directed by Paul Michael Glaser (from Starsky and Hutch fame). If you ever rent it, I am one of the children playing in the camp the characters come up to during the course of the movie. I wore a red jacket.

  19. As a result, I can somewhat link myself to Kevin Bacon, in a roundabout way. He never calls.

  20. I watched E.T. no less than eight times at the theater.

  21. During that time period, I also watched Hangar 18 at the theater, which would go on to be riffed by the MST3K folks in their first season.

  22. The only time I ever skipped school, I was caught by my driver's ed teacher. He was cool and let us go.

  23. Thanks to Chuck Mangione's Feels So Good, I chose to play trumpet in middle school band. It was only later that I learned he played the flugelhorn.

  24. I have been to the old Miami Beach Convention Center to see live wrestling events.

  25. I have worked on teaching Abby and Jon the different Star Trek crews.

  26. The NPR broadcasts of H2G2 and Star Wars radio dramas intrigued me--I now have the H2G2 ones on my iPod and need to get the Star Wars ones.

  27. Speaking of NPR, my mother and I used to listen to the Mystery! ones long ago.

  28. Because I spent so much time online gaming, when our network was upgraded to CAT 5 I kept the BNC connector to my old office.

  29. Because I can't imagine marrying fruit, I must say that I once owned Epic Comics' entire run of Elfquest--oh what I would give for the WaRP Graphics run of it!

I have been giving some thought to buying a B flat trumpet or heck, a flugelhorn.

Really though, if he only took a few moments for me, I could perhaps have saved him from the abomination known as The Hollow Man.
